Maria Sassi, PhD in agricultural economics is Associate Professor at the Department of Economics and Management, University of Pavia, Italy where she teaches Food Economics and Agricultural Development and Quantitative Policy Analysis for Development. She has the Italian Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale (ASN; National Scientific Qualification) for full professor. She is member of the Technical Board of the Master programme in Cooperation and Development organised by the IUSS and the University of Pavia where she teaches a course on Food Security and Rural Development. She is local director of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in International Development Studies (http://glodep.eu/). She is appointed NOHA director for the University of Pavia (http://www.nohanet.org/en/). She promoted and coordinates the International Research Network on Natural Resources, Agricultural Development and Food Security (http://economia.unipv.it/naf/). She is a member of the Centre for International Cooperation and Development of the University of Pavia (http://www.unipv.eu/site/home/internazionalizzazione/cooperazione-allo-sviluppo.html). She is member of Editorial Board of the scientific Journal of International Humanitarian Action (http://www.jhumanitarianaction.com/) and editor of the NAF - International Research Centre International Working Paper Series (http://nafirn.weebly.com/working-paper-series.html). She took part to several international research projects, supported by the European Union and International Organizations, such as the FAO and the UNDP, mainly focused on food security issues in Sub-Saharan Africa. She has published articles on international journals on a variety of topics related to food security and agricultural development mainly focused on the African context: Economic and Health Determinants of Child Nutritional Status; Impact of Climate Change on Cereal Market and Food Security; Commodity Food Prices; Food price volatility; and Global crisis and agricultural public spending.
